About

Every day, friends, family and patients ask my opinion about medical topics in the news. Will that supplement help me? How can I get more exercise? Should I get that vaccine? What do you think about health care reform? And on and on and on. The internet and health blogs are wonderful resources for education and I decided to start a blog to share information with you and to comment on the questions you bring to me. I talk a lot with my patients about health in general. We discuss food, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits. I also love to cook, follow food bloggers and hope you will enjoy a mix of wellness topics here in The Doctors’ Rheum.

Board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology (the care of arthritis and other bone, muscle and joint disorders), I see daily how lifestyle changes can positively impact the lives of my patients. Feel free to leave comments or contact me via gmail (thedoctorsrheum) or Twitter (doctorsrheum). More information can be found on my practice website www.ashevillearthritis.com.

what an awesome blog and job you have! i can only imagine how many health questions you get flooded with, great to have a forum to share info! i’m torn between applying to med school and getting my master’s in nursing to be a NP, but i definitely know i want to be in the medical field!

  2. Hi,

I work at Edelman, a public relations firm that works with the Arthritis Foundation. Since you are in contact both with other rheumatologists and arthritis patients, I wanted to let you know about one of the Foundation’s new projects: My Doc Rocks. It helps arthritis patients say thank you to special doctors by honoring them at Arthritis Walks across the country. If you would like more information, please contact me or visit http://lmt.arthritis.org/arthritis-walk/my-doc-rocks-form.php.

    Best,
    Adam

    • Hi Adam, I hadn’t heard about the My Doc Rocks program. I’ll check with my local chapter to see if they have any information for the office. Thanks for pointing it out!

  3. you are so cute in that pic!

can’t wait until i can say ‘board certified’ . . . (my gen peds boards will be in october and endo not for 3 years after that!). but that doesn’t seem to stop everyone from asking me for medical advice — even about adults (which i know next to nothing about).

  4. Thanks for the blog comment! I look forward to reading your blog!

  5. hey – just wanted to say thanks for the GH link. i found the people’s commentary just as much or more interesting than the article 🙂

  8. Hi Julie,

I apologize for posting this to your blog, but I didn’t know how else to contact you! My name is Natalia and I’m the Community Coordinator for an online health community called WEGO Health (www.wegohealth.com). I came across your blog, while doing some research into the online RA community. I was so impressed the great resource you have created for the greater RA community.

Just wanted to drop you a quick note because we recently launched a new video platform called WEGOHealth.tv and are in the process of building a RA Channel featuring the advice, information and wisdom of Health Activists like yourself. I think you would be an excellent addition to the channel and I would love to chat with you about possibly creating a video with us!

Please check out our site; http://tv.wegohealth.com/ and get back to me at your convenience if you have any interest.

I know this note it a little out of the blue and I understand if it’s not something you would be interested in, but I didn’t want you to miss out on the opportunity.

    Thanks,

    Natalia
